Capítulo 7 - Chapter 7: Nothing is same for Hermione

"According to my muggle knowledge, today is Gandhi's birthday right?" Hermione asked even though she knew the answer.

Parvati nodded "Yes. Dad would be going nuts in home."

"Why?"

"He loved Gandhi. He saved us Indians from 200 years of oppression by Britishers."

"I'm sorry"

"What are you sorry for?"

"I'm sorry for what we, the Europeans did to your country."

"Once India was known as the golden bird, the most beautiful country around the whole world." Parvati said sadly "But I don't blame you. It was our ancestors. We can change the present. We can change the future. But we can't change the past. It's no better to hold a grudge." Parvati explained.

Hermione nodded thoughtfully, then linked her arms with Parvati "By the way, thanks a lot Parvati for agreeing to study with me."

"What are friends for?" Parvati smirked.

They both stopped when they saw the open classroom door. They could see two students doing you-know-what. They couldn't see their faces and they didn't try to, as they ran back to Grffindor tower giggling like fools.

"What's going on between you and Ron?" Parvati asked as she and Hermione stopped laughing at the indecent incident, getting comfortable on the soft kashmiri couch.

"Nothing" Hermione said picking at her frayed robes "We kissed once during the battle at Hogwarts."

"Do you like him?" Parvati frowned.

"I do like him. But I don't want to spoil our friendship. If we are in a relationship everything will get messy. Ron agrees. So we are not anything more than friends."

To that Parvati smiled.

"What are you smiling at?" Hermione asked discombobulated.

"Nothing" Parvati said but didn't stop smiling.

As Parvati and Hermione conversed, Harry and Ginny were standing behind the flamboyant orange drapes trying to figure out how to slip in their rooms without their friends noticing them.

"Have you told Harry and Ron about your problems?" Parvati asked.

"No" Hermione replied embarrassed "I just can't. To them and everyone else I'm the best witch of this generation. They might not take it well knowing I can hardly concentrate on studies."

"But they are your best friends"

"One more reason I can't tell them. I just don't want to burden them."

"As you wish, Hermione. And remember I'm always there for you. We will study together and you will be back to your nerdy-I-know-everything-superior-ass"

Hermione laughed and hugged Parvati tightly whispering "Thank you" againg and again.

"Let's go to bed" Parvati said finally "I mean our separate beds"

Hermione gave her an amused smile, linking her arm with Parvati's pulled her to the dorm.

Ginny and Harry quietly kissed good bye and went to their rooms.
