História Shifter Academy - Is this going to mess me up?

Chapter 19

I opened my eyes. I had a huge headache and all my muscles were hurting like I had just run a marathon. I needed a few moments to understand what was going on. I was in my bed, but I couldn’t remember getting there. I guess Gwen and Mia helped me. There was something in the end of the bed, and I stood up quickly. It was huge Tiger. Or at least I thought it was one, because I’ve never seen a black tiger in my life. It was almost Griff’s size, and its eyes were the same turquoise color as mine. It was the most beautiful animal I’ve ever seen. It was impossible to take my eyes off of it. I couldn’t believe I was one of the five big ones!!! I was hoping for a predator yes, but I didn’t dream so far as to think I could have a tiger. I was completely amazed.

I looked at Gwen -with Hell in her arms- and Mia to share my excitement with them, but they weren’t looking at the tiger at all. Their eyes were penetrated beside Mia’s bed. I looked at that direction and there I found a wolf. It was light grey, almost white, and it’s eyes were also the same color of mine. I couldn’t understand. What was it doing there? Had someone lost it? No. That couldn’t be. Wolfs weren’t allowed in the academy’s territory. The wolf looked at the tiger, ignoring the rest of us in the room and started growling at it, taking a defensive position. It charged, but the feline was ready for it. It was almost twice the wolf’s size. So it definitely wasn’t a competition. But the wolf was out of control, trying at all costs to take blood from the tiger. But the other was just defending itself, trying not to hurt it badly. The wolf was going to the Tiger’s jugular, and the tiger took it down with one hit, holding him down, pinning it with the whole weight. I heard an urgent voice in my head. “Take her in. Now!!” The tiger was staring at me so I guess it must have been her.  Her voice was beautiful. I was very curious to know how the animal could be heard. I thought it was like a growl that you could magically translate or something like that. But that wasn’t it at all. I could understand her in perfect English. I didn’t know how that worked but it was very awesome.

No one ever thought me how to take it in, so I tried to focus completely in the wolf, trying to forget everything else in the room. Then I imagined every atom of the wolf’s body becoming light, disintegrating and completely in control. I didn’t thought it would work that easily, but apparently it did. I guess we all had a natural knowledge for this kind of stuff. Soon enough the wolf was just a white light ball in the air, over the tiger’s head. I pictured the light coming towards me, and soon being enveloped by my body. The moment the light touched my skin, I could feel a warmed welcoming me, but it was good. Comfortable even. Like a warm blanked in a cold day. I made a cage in my mind, big enough for the wolf to walk freely and tossed the light inside. I made sure that it was safely guarded, closing the connection. Even then I could feel the wolf walking impatiently inside. Waiting for an opening to get out.

I came back to my room and there I found my roommates and my spiritual animal all looking at me.

“Please someone tell me what is going on. They appeared at the same time. Kayla. They both have your eyes. For God’s sake, you just took the wolf inside!!” Mia’s voice was terrified as she tried to stay calm and failed miserably.

The memory of Mace talking to me about his father came to mind. “A disturbance happened during the transition. I’ve heard about it, but I thought it was something very rare. What are the odds. And with a tiger of them all.” The feline took a step closer, feeling the awkwardness of the moment. It’s calculating stare falling over me. “No one can know about this. Please, you both have to promise me that you won’t tell a soul about it. No one can know that I have two spiritual animals, or that one of them is a wolf. Not even Chris or Derek!” I begged them both, terrified of the idea of someone else finding out. I thanked the Gods that I had time to get in my room, because if I hadn’t, I would be in big trouble right now. I didn’t know what would happen if they knew I was also a wolf, but I don’t think it would be good.

“Hey, calm down both of you. It’s okay. No one else will know about this, I promise.” Gwen hugged Hell tighter, looking at me. I knew she was telling me the truth. I could see it in her eyes. Rin, already out, looked disappointed at the tiger. I guess her dreams of me being a rhino as well were destroyed. Gwen and I looked expectantly at Mia. We stood like that for a while and waited for her to respond.

“Yeah, sure. Is just that…. Kayla, everyone who goes through the transition and end up as a wolf… they always change. Remember that our animals get our traits, and we get theirs as well. So… what will happen with you? Does it change anything that you have a tiger to balance it off?”What Mia said made sense. It was the second thing that went through my mind after finding both animals in my room. Everyone knows that the tiger is know by it morality, so that is what I was counting on to save me.  So I answered her truthfully.

“I don’t know Mia. I hope I won’t change much. I can’t become the think I hate most. I just won’t allow it. But if I ever do, you guys have my permission to end me.” I was serious about it. It could come to that. at this point I wasn’t sure about anything.

“Oh stop it. This will never happen and you know it. Now let’s stop thinking about the bad stuff and let’s focus on the awesome one. Girl, there is a huge tiger in our room!! We have three of all the five big right here in the academy. How cool is that?? Mace, James and you should be ‘the wild squad’. I would pay to see this dream come true.” Gwen joked, and we all started laughing. I looked back at the tiger. I was so happy to have her. The first thing I wanted to do was talk to her. I tried to think loudly in my mind ‘HEY!! IF YOU CAN HEAR ME, BLINK TWICE!!’

‘It’s not necessary for you to think loudly. You just have to want for me to read your thoughts and focus on what you want me to know, then the rest is easy.’ I heard her again in my mind, and soon my face was scarlet.

‘Sorry. I’m still trying to get use to this. So, my name is Kayla, and I guess we will be stuck with each other for the rest of our lives huh?’ I heard her laughing in my head.

‘I know who you are. It may be confusing for you to understand this, but everything I know it’s from your memories. I have every thought you ever did. Everything that ever happened to you, happened to me as well. You can say that we are the same.’

‘Wow. Not creepy at all.’ I joked with her ‘I am really glad to have you. What is your name?’

‘I don’t have one yet. That’s with you. But please don’t call me anything funny, or ironic.’ Her voice was reprehensive.

‘I guess you really know me well. Just because my last bunny was called Carrot, or my dog was called Cat, that doesn’t mean that I am going to call Wolfy. Hey, what do you think…’

‘No! please don’t!! Anything but Wolfy.’ Even her tiger face was desperate. It was kind of funny.

‘Wow, you really can read my mind. So awesome!’

“Kayla, I know you are excited and everything to talk with you animal and stuff, but can you please share some of your conversation? We are lost here.” Then I noticed Gwen. She was lying in her bed. Mia was on top of Rin who was lying on her back beside Gwen’s bed. Hell was sleeping soundly. How much time passed?

“Sorry. Its just that everything is so overwhelming!! But I need your guys help. What name should I give them? The wolf can’t go unnamed.”I searched inside my mind. “something tells me it’s a ‘he’.”
