Capítulo 1 - Prologue

Fanfic / Fanfiction The Lights Within - Prologue

In this day and age, line between day and night was blurred and supernatural creatures have worked their way into the society. In a way, it was natural outcome. The humans prided themselves on the culture they had built up, and claimed that they were the ultimate rulers of the world. But they would be forced to see the error of their ways. No one noticed when the supernatural creatures started showing up. They couldn't have noticed. No one knew they had started to mix in.

The vampires...

They were the actual rulers of the world. The vampires laugh at and look down upon the foolish humans, and prey on them.

Vampires are the supernatural creatures of the earth. As in traditional folklore, they are sensitive to the sun and are active during the night; however, in reality, sunlight only hurts their eyes and does not actually cause them any physical damage.

When killed, vampires will turn into sand. However Purebloods are an exception, as when they die, they instead shatter into shards of glass. The most effective way to kill any vampire is to cut off their head or stab their heart using an anti-vampire weapon. These pasts' years, 'Blood Tablets' had been developed to take the place of actual blood feeding, despite having a bad taste. Vampires also have a blood-lust that can only be quenched by the blood of their beloved.

Vampires have existed for well over 10,000 years, first appearing when mankind's civilizations began to crumble. At one point, they waged a war against humans, during which Purebloods began turning humans into vampires. When the number of vampires began to increase, a monarchy was established to rule the vampire race, with the Kurans' as the royal family.

However, two generations ago in current times, the former king and head of the Kuran family (Rido, Haruka and Juri's father) abolished the monarchy in order to avoid authoritarianism. The Senate was established to govern the vampire realm, with high-ranking vampire aristocrats in the seats. Despite their demoted status, however, the Kuran family still holds the title as the highest standing family, and it is well known that there are many vampire families who would support Kaname Kuran if he chose to take back the kingship.

There are 5 types of vampires, ranked according to the purity of their blood. The more diluted by human blood, the lower their ranking is.

Level A is the Purebloods; the rarest, most elite, and most powerful class, whose blood lines have never mixed with any humans. They are the monarchy of the vampire race, meaning that they are very powerful and demonstrate many abilities such as being the only vampires able to turn humans into their own kind. However, these former human vampires are not powerful and will eventually lose their sanity and falling into Level E.

Purebloods have no trace of human ancestry and so are considered to be the rulers of all other vampires.

There are only 6 families of Purebloods left; The Kuran Family, The Shirabuki Family, The Hanadagi Family, The Shoto Family, The Ori Family and The Toma Family. The reason for this is not definite, but it can be assumed it is due to the killing of Purebloods and their servants during the war between vampires and the vampire hunters, led by Kaname Kuran over 10,000 years before the start of the story.

Level B is known as the Aristocrats. They are elite vampires with specialized abilities beyond normal vampires. These are also very powerful vampires, but not as powerful as Purebloods, due to having a small amount of human blood in their ancestry. They have super strength and speed, as well as specialized powers such as mind control or freezing matter. When an aristocrat is killed, they turn to dust like all other vampires, excluding Purebloods. These vampires are still able to be compelled by Purebloods, but enjoy a much more independent lifestyle in general. The Vampire Council is usually made up from their ranks.

Levels C, D and E include humans who have been turned into a vampire by a Pureblood rather than being born as a vampire. These ex-humans would eventually go mad with blood-lust and become a Level E if they are not stabilized by drinking the blood of the one who originally bit them. Stabilized ex-humans are known as "Level C" or "regular vampires", and humans that have been bitten, but have not gone mad are "Level D".

Against the menace the vampires represented towards humans, they started the Vampire Hunters Association. This group develops a long rivalry between humans and vampires, which Kaein Cross pretends to end with the foundation of Cross Academy. Most humans, however, are totally unaware of the existence of vampires and those that do find out often have their memories erased.

Human is the term for the group of people who are normal, mortal homo-sapiens that exist n earth. And only a handful of humans know about the existence of vampires; those humans resides Cross Academy and Vampire Hunter Association.

The town at night was lit up as brightly as day, but that didn't mean that the night had become safe.

They feed off of the humans' life-force. When they lose their life-force, a human becomes withered corpses, like a deflated balloon, that was the case in Level C and below level vampires.

It was a true fear.

Humans feared them.

Aware that Zero was bitten by a Pureblood vampire, Kaname expresses concern over Zero's inevitable awakening as a vampire and asks Kaien Cross to move him to the Night Class. Despite his misgivings over Zero's condition, Kaname expresses respect for Zero's strength of will to resist the vampire instincts for four years.

Kaname expresses great disgust for Zero succumbing to his vampire nature and biting Yuki. Kaname gets very angry that Yuki is reminded of the first vampire she saw him kill. He also gets irritated by the fact that "his precious girl has been bitten by another". Kaname however quickly regains his composure and repeatedly reminds Zero that he owes Yuki for what she has done for him.

Kaname has already decided that Zero is his tool to protect Yuki. He advises Zero that despite his anger over his drinking Yuki's blood, he is allowing him to live and be Yuki's shield.

When Shizuka Hio as Maria Kurenai endangers Zero, Kaname only expresses a little regret for the loss of his tool, believing Zero expendable. When Zero was struggling to fight against his Level E instincts and was subsequently locked up in an underground cellar by his teacher Toga Yagari, Kaname soon appeared and forced Zero to drink his blood, which he claimed would heal him slightly, as it was the blood of a Pureblood. Kaname also harshly stated that this was for Yuki.

Zero figures out that Kaname was the one who killed Shizuka after he gets confused over Kaname saving him from the council's vampires. He confronts Kaname to find out why the Pureblood killed Shizuka and is surprised that Kaname wanted him to drink Shizuka's blood and even expresses envy that Zero is able to protect Yuki. Zero chooses not to reveal the truth about Kaname. At the very last moment, Kaname taunts Zero with the fact that since his blood was "inside" Zero, it is really in fact "him" protecting Yuki, not Zero. Overall, Zero's civility has increased towards Kaname, though it always borders on rudeness.

Kaname's jealousy of Yuki's attachment to Zero causes him to be ruder to Zero and go as far as naming him a suspect when a human girl is being bitten at Cross Academy. Though Zero denies it, Yuki is more offended by it than Zero is. Despite Kaname's accusation, he fully trusts Zero to protect Yuki to the best of his ability, reminding Zero of this on multiple occasions.

When Kaname convinces Zero to bite him, he expresses his most honest thoughts. Kaname tells Zero he hates him and causing Zero to shoot at the side of his head. Kaname slashes Zero's neck and he reveals how often he has thought about killing Zero with a single blow, but does not want to release Zero from his suffering. Zero only submits to taking Kaname's blood in order to stop hurting Yuki.

Zero accompanies Yuki to investigate her past by looking through the hunter's files, the president of the Hunters taunts Zero by putting him in a room with blood soaked materials. He tells Zero to secure Kaname Kuran's blood as the blood of the Kurans is strong enough to act as an effective delay. During an attempt to find out why Kaname is hiding Yuki's past from her, Kaname convinces Zero to drink his blood. Ichiru returns to the school and later that night, Zero goes with Yuki for moral support. After Yuki collapses, Ichiru warns Zero to stay away from her. Zero is devastated and angry when he discovers that Yuki is actually a Pureblood vampire, Zero severed his friendship with her and likewise Yuki told him her vampire side "ate" her other side.

Though Zero regained his sanity, the Hunters Association have him locked up, arrested by Yagari. Kaname revealed that his purpose in strengthening Zero was in order for him to protect Yuki and defeat Rido Kuran. Zero is shot by his twin brother and finally completed the Twin Hunter fragment after he is convinced to "eat" the dying Ichiru. With this act, along with being a twin vampire hunter of excellent lineage who has become a vampire, within Zero is the blood of three Purebloods, Yuki, Kaname and Shizuka, making Zero one of the most powerful man in the world of human and vampire society and saving him from becoming a Level E.

Zero develops powers are shown to be manipulation of vines within his body that are an extension of the Bloody Rose, which is capable of stopping Yuki's evolved Artemis Rod. Zero declared Yuki his enemy and attempted to keep her out of his fight with Rido. When Yuki struck the deadly blow to Rido's heart, Zero completed the destruction. Zero then turns the Bloody rose on Yuki and reveals his intention to kill all Pureblood vampires, including her. His memories of past Yuki fill him and he is unable to pull the trigger, yelling that it would have been okay if she had killed him instead.

Kaname interrupts the scene, but after a brief altercation he leaves Yuki and Zero alone to say goodbye. Because of Bloody Rose draining his blood, Zero once again feeds from Yuki, then kisses her, revealing to her that he loves her. Though he hugs her, Zero tells Yuki that the next time they meet, he'll kill her. As Yuki leaves the Academy, she sees Zero one last time, carrying Ichiru's body. The two lock eyes, then part ways.

After the two year time skip, Hunter Association has been trying to find Zero and hunting vampires on the hunter's execution list by night in an effort to find a clue of the disappearance of the last member of the Kiryu Clan.

Speculations came from those people who gave up in searching, always his name was topic of conversation with new 'hoax' news. Hoax that's loathed by the HA President. He knows that his son is in a well condition and has a right decision to quit as a Hunter if he wanted to.

The Hunter Association President didn't tell anyone but, Zero's disappearance was a decision came from both parties, Kaein Cross and Zero Kiryu.

Everything that happened two years ago was a shock from everyone, the came back of the Pureblood vampire Rido Kuran and the disappearance of the hunter who cause by his death; Zero Kiryu.

Tonight for the humans.

Daylight for the vampires.

Another shocking scene they will witness.

Another history will be made, and things were just getting started.

The come back of ex-prefect and ex-hunter Zero Kiryu, and together with brats.

Wait. What?!
